Summer Blues

Heather Gault (Bride) BROOKLYN, NY
Pretty much from the moment I got engaged I knew I wanted to do my own flowers. I had been to a bridal shower for a friend where everyone made their own flower crown, and I had LOVED IT. So the idea of putting together arrangements with my closest girlfriends and mother the day before the wedding seemed like the most wonderful way to spend the afternoon before my wedding. The only problem was my family was super against it. They thought I’d be really stressed out, that the flowers wouldn’t look good, and that it would be totally overwhelming and no fun. My mother even staged a “floral intervention,” of sorts, to try and convince me not to DIY. It was a bummer because no ... one else seemed to think it sounded fun but my friends adopted an attitude of “you’re the bride so we’ll do whatever.” So we compromised. My parents got to pick a florist for the ceremony space and personals, and I got to DIY to my heart’s content for the reception and cocktail space. Challenge accepted! And guess what—my flower party and DIY flowers were everything I had hoped and dreamed and even more beautiful. From the help, the FiftyFlowers team was ready to provide me whenever I had questions about the order or flower supplies (i.e. how many buckets will I need?), they were so helpful and on top of things. The order arrived exactly when it was supposed to and in great condition; I never worried for an instant that the flowers were too droopy or wouldn’t last until the wedding. The only thing I would go back and change was being home alone when the order arrived—it took 3 hours to trim all the stems and get everything in water by myself. But then the next day when all my best girlfriends and my mother came over to assemble our 24 bud vases and approx. 130 water tubes for short stems, everybody seemed to really have fun! Took 8 of us a little under 2 hours to put it all together, and that was with plenty of breaks for snacks and cocktails. We even had enough flowers leftover that my mom and I made 4 a large “bonus” arrangements, which honestly ended up being my favorite part of all the décor! And even my friends who had never done anything with flowers before were proud of their vases and got a kick out of seeing their arrangements being admired. It was cool to learn a little bit more about flowers and share a new experience together making something beautiful. And now when I look back at pictures of my wedding, I feel so much joy that not only did we have fun and make beautiful and high-quality arrangements, but we saved THOUSANDS of dollars doing it! Flowers Used for Heather Gault's Arrangements

Used for: Centerpieces , Other

These were my favorite part of all the flowers I ordered! The blues were stunning and the deep blues especially were so vibrant and happy. We used these for 24 bud vases the decorated the venue then cut short and approximately 130 assorted flowers (also from the Delicate Garden flower combo) into plastic water tubes to tuck into the long greenery garlands that served as our main centerpieces. That took 8 women about 1.5 hours to do. After that, we had enough flowers and time left to make 4 “bonus” medium-sized arrangements, which I hadn’t planned on but ended up not being able to imagine having done the wedding without as they brought me to much joy to make and people couldn’t believe we had done them ourselves! I absolutely love seeing the blues “pop” in our photos and I’m so proud of the arrangements me and my friends and mom put together the day before.

I ordered 6 20’ garlands and two 5’ garlands for our table tops, to use as a long running centerpiece down our long banquet style set up. The garlands were beautiful, sturdily constructed, the perfect width, and smelled amazing. And they were exactly the length they were supposed to be, perhaps a couple inches longer, which was ideal. We ran the long ones down the tables and used the two shorter ones along the two bars at our reception hall. We also added accent flowers in small plastic water tubes into the garlands, to tie in with the other flowers and color scheme. The effect was beautiful, even better than I had imagined. When the garlands arrived I thought there was no way 130’ of garland fit into those two boxes, but it did! Only thing was we set them out early the day of the wedding and although it was inside it was quite warm and sunny in the reception space, by the time dinner rolled around the leaves were looking a little droopy. Also, plan time/tools to sweep up/vacuum all the little seeds that fall off once the garlands are in place for your event.

Leather Leaf Greenery ( 10 Bunches )

This leather leaf was the perfect basic greenery for our centerpieces and bud vases. Used in medium sized square gold vases and milk glass bud vases throughout the cocktail lounge, perimeter of the reception space, hallways, and even by the restrooms, it was durable and versatile. And there was SO MUCH OF IT! 10 bunches was way too much for 24 bud vases and 4 medium sized arrangements. I ordered way too much for my purposes, whoops! I actually ended up asking the expensive florist on my corner if they wanted it because we had 2 five-gallon buckets left after the wedding that we hadn’t used, and they were happy to take it (and the buckets) off my hands. So I’m glad it didn’t go to waste.

I was so anxious about ordering the “delicate” pack because I thought I’d accidentally destroy the flowers, but when they arrived they seemed like pretty normal flowers, to me. The only thing that was tricky was the anemone stems were tricky to get into floral foam (but that stuff is so bad for you anyways and we only used a little foam in “bonus” arrangements with the extra flowers). But I’m so glad I this combo pack; it was exactly what I wanted. The ranunculus were so sweet, and were the perfect alternative to roses, which I had kind of wanted to avoid. And I hadn’t really thought much about the scabiosa except that they came along with the other two flowers I wanted, but I’m so glad they did because they offered that pop of texture and filled space in the arrangements in a way the other two flowers couldn’t have. I thought it was a really well-thought out combo pack. We used these flowers for 24 bud vases that decorated the venue then cut short and approximately 130 assorted flowers (also from the Blue Assorted designer Delpinium pack) into plastic water tubes to tuck into the long greenery garlands that served as our main centerpieces. I also think I ordered the perfect amount of flowers for the size of our venue and arrangements we were making, so that was awesome! We had enough leftover to make 4 extra arrangements, and they ended up being my favorite ones of the whole day!
