A California Wedding In The Woods

Katherine Menard (Bride) Blairsden-Graeagle, CA
Katherine and David's relationship began as strictly professional during the summer of 2013 when they met while working in Chicago. Both were in that city for just a few months before David moved elsewhere for work and Katherine returned to college. Their romance, which took root at the end of that first summer, developed over long distance until David settled in his native Bay Area and Katherine, recently-graduated and newly-employed, was able to join him. When they returned to Chicago together for a wedding in the fall of 2017, David took the opportunity to pop the question in the city that started it all. Katherine answered with an emphatic YES, and the couple returned to California to commence ... the wedding planning process. The wedding's vibrant color palette was inspired by Katherine and David's many experiences traveling together, their shared interest in painting, and Katherine's Mediterranean heritage. Their love of David's longtime (and Katherine's adopted) home of California determined the natural setting and rustic decor. Katherine tapped her sister Alex (who was waiting in the wings with bated breath) to make her floral aspirations a reality. The sisters worked to define the floral aesthetic and select the flower varieties, and they were grateful for FiftyFlowers' assistance in determining appropriate quantities and getting across the ordering finish line. During the wedding week Alex, Chalet View Lodge wedding planners Paulette and Mattie, and a number of family members assembled the floral arrangements of Katherine's dreams! With FiftyFlowers' excellent support and simple advice, the flowers arrived onsite when anticipated, bloomed just in time for the wedding, and looked positively beautiful on Katherine and David's big day! Flowers Used for Katherine Menard's Arrangements

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

The eucalyptus was a nice contrast in texture and color next to the deep green Italian ruscus in the centerpieces and arrangements.

Italian Ruscus Greenery ( 20 bunches )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Corsages, Boutonnieres, Other

Italian ruscus was the most beautiful, rich green base for every floral element. It was wispy and elegant in the bouquets, and full on the tables.

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Boutonnieres, Other

The ranunculus was a colorful, whimsical component to the bouquets and arrangements, and looked GREAT in the groom's boutonniere against his grey lapel. However, because they are delicate by nature, they wilted before the heartier flowers and the groom's boutonniere did not last long post-ceremony.

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

The light-to-dark variation in these tiny flowers proved beautiful in the bouquets and arrangements, but really shone bright nestled among the greens on the tables.

Enticing Red Garden Rose ( 36 Garden Roses )

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

The garden roses were a rich complement to the orange hues in the bouquets and arrangements. Traditional in color, but unique in variety!

Burning Orange Garden Rose ( 60 Garden Roses )

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

These garden roses were even more vibrant than we expected, and were the perfect orange foundation for the bouquets and large arrangements.

Bulk Pampas Grass ( 5 bunches )

Used for: Other

The Pampas grass provided texture and dimension to the arrangements on the arbor and in containers around the venue. It was a rustic, bohemian nod to the couple's California roots!

Stock White Flower ( 10 Bunches or 100 Stems )

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Other

This white stock was a lovely, elegant complement to the stiff orange gladiolus in the large arrangements, and a classic romantic element in the bride's bouquet. Though delicate and more prone to wilting than some of the other flowers in our arrangements, it made it through the weekend just fine.

Gladiolus Orange Flower ( 5 Bunches Premium )

Used for: Other

The robust, brightly-colored gladiolus was a perfect, structural flower for the large arrangements attached to the arbor and in containers both in the ceremony at the reception. They opened beautifully in the days leading up to the wedding, and remained healthy throughout the weekend!

Farm Assorted Protea Variety Pack ( 20 Assorted Protea Stems )

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

The protea were an impressive, unexpected element next to the more traditional flowers in the bouquets and arrangements. They added great texture and dimension in color.

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Boutonnieres, Other

The white anemone with a hint of blush was a very pretty contrast to the robust protea and full ranunculus. They, too, looked fantastic in the groomsmen's boutonnieres. However, like the ranunculus, we were very careful to keep them cool and well-watered before the big day, and they proved too delicate to withstand post-wedding hugs, not to mention the dance floor.
